Born from the portuguese's will on
the margins of the Rìo de la Plata river, built of wood and stone, it arose the
Nova Colonia Do Santìsimo Sacramento.
It
was a point of controversy between the portuguese and spanish crowns, that left
its mark of his past in its architecture and streets.
The
mix of countryside, beaches and river gives to this place a natural setting
that combines with history.
Starting point: Montevideo
Join
us to this wonderful colonial city, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage
List.
Starting with the departure
from Montevideo city, we’ll go
through the neighborhoods Capurro, La Teja and the emblematic Cerro Hill.
Then we’ll cross the Santa Lucia River Bridge, arriving to the San Josè department, a state farmer recognized as the largest
producer of potatoes in the country and the best producer of milk. It is also
recognized as one of the departments with the highest industrial growth in our
country. The city was founded in 1783 by Spanish immigrants who arrived from
the province of León, Spain, and we will perform a technical stop of
approximately 40 minutes in its square.
Tour in Colonia and surroundings
We´ll arrive to Colonia and visit the Real San Carlos, The Bullring, and the Río de
la Plata River´s panoramic.
Then we´ll go to the Historic Quarter of Colonia del
Sacramento to discover this portuguese city through a walking tour. We´ll visit
the Portòn de Campo (The Gate of
entrance), the Walls, the famous Street of Sights (Calle de los
Suspiros), the Lighthouse, The main Square, and the Blessed Sacrament`s Cathedral.
Free time to lunch and activities.
At the end we'll go through
the 1 Street again where we´ll make a stop to know Granja Arenas (Arenas Farm) where you can find its Collectionist
Museum, and you can taste the sweets and cheeses of the area.
Return to hotels and end of
our services.
